Blog 19: Senior Project and ESLRs

1. What ESLR have you excelled in most in your senior project?
I think out of all of the ESLRs, the one I have excelled the most in has to be communication.

2. Please explain why you think you have excelled in this ESLR.
I can honestly say that senior year has been a drag so far and I haven't really excelled at much, but if I had to pick one it would be communication.

3. Provide evidence from your senior project to support your claim (evidence is a photo of something you are doing, photo of something you made, etc).
In my mentorship I must act professional because I am working with customers and I represent someones business. During R.O.P I help the students when they have questions and I have to effectively communicate to them how to achieve what they want.

Content:

1.  What is your essential question?

Currently, what are some advancements in photography?

2.  What is your third answer to your essential question (write your third answer in a complete sentence)?

Some advancements in photography include medical photography.

3.  What are three details to support or justify your third answer (details are examples or facts)?

This includes:
-Bacteria and viruses
-Before and after photos of surgery procedures
-Pre-surgery photoshop outcomes
-Surgery photos to document procedure

4.  What source helped you prove this answer is justified for your essential question?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/18/zachary-copfer-blends-bac_n_1889677.html
There are a couple of different sites where I found actual jobs where people photograph before, during, and after photos of surgery.

5.  What do you plan to study next and why?

I hope to find more research of actual photographers who take pictures of bacteria and viruses for documenting purposes. I hope to find anything along those lines because you see pictures in books and they have to get there somehow.

  • Introduction:  Hello, my name is....Austin
  • my senior project topic is.. Photography
and my essential question is..Currently, what are some advancements in photography?
  • Say what your first (Underwater photography) and second answer (Scientific photography) (don't explain them) and then say your third(Medical photography)
  • Provide details to support or justify your third answer
  • -Bacteria and viruses
  • -Before and after photos of surgery procedures
  • -Pre-surgery photoshop outcomes
    -Surgery photos to document procedure
  • Conclude by explaining what you plan to study next (go deeper into my topic by relating it to current technology and possible jobs that come from it.)

Blog 16: 2-Hour Meeting Answer #2

1. What is your essential question?
Currently, what is the most important development in photography?

2. What is your second answer to your essential question?
Space photography is a current development in photography.

3. Satlites have taken amazing photos to further advance our knowledge of space as well as telescopes. Parts of the satalites are even specialized to take 3D images of space and can be used to determine distances of stars in the galaxy like a video that we watched in Pittman's showed.

4. What source helped you prove this answer and why?
An article by NASA helped with my answer. It went into detail about the different attatchments on the Hubble Satalite and how each is used to photograph specifics.

5. What do you plan to study next with your second answer and why?
I plan to continue my study of my answer 2 by doing more research of different technology that has helped us advance space photography.

Blog 10: Senior Project Update

1. What are you currently doing in your independent component?

For my component I have just been going to ROP when i can to get my service learning hours. I need to check out a camera or invest some money to get my own camera so i can start a portfolio and that will be my independent component or start a separate blog for my component. I'm still undecided between the 2.

2. What is a recent piece of research that you have reviewed you would say was signifigant in helping you understand where to go next in your senior project? The piece of research should be something viewed in November. Please explain what you learned and where you are going next because of this piece of research.

http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/film.htm/printable This website has been a great help and has helped me decided that I would like to explain more than just the history of photography but the mechanics of what actually goes into a single picture, not just from a digital stand but from early film photographs as well.

3. Provide evidence from your independent component or the piece of research as something you recently did.

Blog 9: Working EQ and Possible Answers

1. My working EQ for my first 10 minute presentation was, "How will photography evolve in the next 10 years."

2. I am not going to revise my EQ at this time.

3. Photography will lean more towards the world of phoneography.
Old styles of photography might make a come back but with modern twists, such as film that is improved with modern technology.

Blog 2: Topic Chioce

What is your topic and why?

Photography is my topic this year because it has always been a personal obsession of mine. Wherever I go I always carry a camera with me to capture anything I find interesting or will remind me of the day. It really is a very personal connection when I pick up a photograph and look back at that moment. To me, it is exactly how the saying goes; a picture really is worth a thousand words.  It means everything to me.

My family background plays a huge part in why something as simple as a picture is so sacred to me. It may sound ridiculous but I have a genuine fear of developing Alzheimer’s disease, a disease that depletes your memory starting with short term and moving its way into your long term memory until you can’t even remember a simple task like eating. My grandma has been living with Alzheimer’s disease for over ten years and she has reached a point where she won’t even respond to basic “hello” or “goodbyes”. My father is even showing some signs of the disease. I want to try and prolong my memories through pictures, hoping that they will be able to spark something in my mind to help me remember the times in my life. This is why my passion for photos and photography is so dear to my heart. I want to capture special moments in other people’s lives so that they can remember their good experiences in life.

What do I hope to accomplish this year with this topic (connecting to the 4 ESLR's)?

iPoly Citizen:  I will be improving as an Ipoly citizen because I will be helping my fellow student body in the class room by helping them learn and understand my photography class that I’ve had experience with. I plan on accompanying Jack B. in taking the Ipoly student pictures, Senior Portraits, and being his assistant in our R.O.P program here on campus.

Effective Communicator: While volunteering in the R.O.P class on campus I will be answering any questions that students may have about Photoshop or the concepts taught in class like abstract photos and photojournalism.

Effective Learner: I plan on learning more in depth skills about photography in modern times. To me this means learning more about the digital side of photography such as Photoshop concepts and learning how to properly use the controls on the camera such as the shutter speeds and ISO settings.

Effective user of technology: By learning how to properly use the adjustments on the camera, I am effectively using technology at it’s finest. Not only will I be working with cameras, which is a must, I will also be learning to set up and test lighting, and again use Photoshop to do minor edits.
