I had never attended a
wedding before Rob and Nicole’s wedding, or photographed such an important
event like this either. As a team of three photographers, we followed around
the bride and groom to capture special moments on their special day. We also
made sure to capture their family, friends, and wedding party as they shared
Rob and Nicole’s celebration together. When the time came to “kiss the bride”,
we all made sure we had good angles to capture the most important part of the
wedding. The couple was very nice and invited us to grab drinks and food and
to celebrate with them.

I experienced the feel of
a wedding at the first one I attended on June 8, which prepared me for David
and Meleena’s wedding, a very different experience from the first wedding I helped
photograph. The first couple seemed to be more relaxed, where as this couple
was more stressed out throughout the day. However, when we took them away to
have their couple photos, their stressed disappeared and they began to
lighten up and enjoy their wedding. They also offered us food and drinks, but
we were very busy capturing them and their guests on their special day.

Today was very different
for me because usually I am in control of the camera, but today I wasn’t. Instead
of photographing, today I was the one being photographed. Jack invited a
professional makeup artist looking to update her portfolio, to use me as a
model to display her talents. She tried three different looks and Jack
photographed the end results. Today was an extreme learning experience
because I was taken out of my comfort zone, behind the camera, and place in an
awkward place for me, in front of the camera.

This was a very similar

What
questions were raised because of the 10 hour experience? List them.
- How
important is it to test equipment before using it?
- How do
you handle rude customers?
- When is
the busiest time of the year for photography?
- What type
of events do you photograph besides weddings?
- What
happens if your equipment does not work the day of the event?
What is the most important thing
you gained from this experience? Why?
There are a lot of important skills that I gained from
working with Jack, but the most important would be my people skills. I feel
that before I started working with Jack I was a bit hesitant to talk to
customers. But as time went on I became less nervous and more open to the fact
that in this business people skills are important. Not only in this business
can people skills get you places but they help in almost every aspect of your
life.
How did what you did help you
choose a topic? Please explain.
I did a lot of different mentorship activities this summer
and I loved the variation of it all because it did not have the monotony of
other mentorships. I know that photography is the right topic for me because it
is what I love to do and have a passion for. Colour by Collier photography
opened my eyes to the different aspects of photography. I did very basic
photography when I helped with the dance team and the Claremont High School
Football team. I also worked in front of the camera which wasn’t my favorite
but the experience helped none the less. The most fun I had I was doing wedding
photography because you get to capture one of the great mile stones in life. I knew
my topic would for sure be photography when I went with Jack to photograph Rob, Nicole, Meleena, and David’s wedding.
