December 10, 2012: R.O.P Motion

Today the R.O.P students were taught how to photograph motion. In a perfect world the photo's subject would be perfectly focused while the backround is blurred so as to show movement, or the backround in focus as the subject and other details blurred such as a car. It sounds easy but actually taking a motion photo is much more of a headache.

December 9, 2012: Claremonte College

Today, Claremont's McKenna College students were photographed for their year book. My job was to input every persons file number with their name, major, and email for the yearbook editors. Everything ran smoothly except for when two senior girls came in at 8:59 and said they were on time to take their pictures because it was still before 9. "If you're early, you're on time; If you're on time you're late." Think about it.
But of course they made a big stink about it that we had to let them take their pictures once we were done photographing the underclassmen at 10.
Overall, everything ran smoothly and we ate free doughnuts :)

Decemeber 5, 2012: Pomona Valley Hospital

Pomona Valley Hospital's Annual Christmas Celebration

Jack Bohlka, aka my mentor, sets up a a slice of the North Pole every December at the Pomona Valley Hospital. All are welcomed from the area and even those who are far away. This event is especially for the children who are sick and can't leave the hospital because of their conditions. Here, Santa came to visit these children and even give them a photo with Santa. My job was to print and save the files while Jack and I switched memory cards back and forth. I remember 2 small children who were visiting their mom in the hospital. We made 2 prints, one for the children and the other for their mother who was too sick to come down. Some patients came down in their wheel chairs and were so over joyed to see Santa there, children and adults. Overall I'd say the event was a success!

Blog 10: Senior Project Update

1. What are you currently doing in your independent component?

For my component I have just been going to ROP when i can to get my service learning hours. I need to check out a camera or invest some money to get my own camera so i can start a portfolio and that will be my independent component or start a separate blog for my component. I'm still undecided between the 2.

2. What is a recent piece of research that you have reviewed you would say was signifigant in helping you understand where to go next in your senior project? The piece of research should be something viewed in November. Please explain what you learned and where you are going next because of this piece of research.

http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/film.htm/printable This website has been a great help and has helped me decided that I would like to explain more than just the history of photography but the mechanics of what actually goes into a single picture, not just from a digital stand but from early film photographs as well.

3. Provide evidence from your independent component or the piece of research as something you recently did.
